Cincinnati, OH – Early each new year, bands emerge from the holiday break and concerts begin to revive.  By mid-February, the concert rhythm is hitting a good stride.

On this particular Friday night, Bogart’s hosted a near sell-out crowd that came to experience Badflower, a young, dynamic rock band from Los Angeles.

Warming up the crowd first was Olive Vox, a fresh, upstart band from Dallas, Texas, who stormed the stage with ferocity and dynamism.  Formed in 2021, the band hit their stride as the pandemic was beginning to fade, and music fans craved the resumption of the live music scene.  Perfect timing for brothers Parker James (vocals) and Caden Shea (guitar), with Ben Reid (bass) and Dayton Phillips (drums) filling out the roster.  The band’s alt rock sound is catchy and invigorating.

Following the Texas crew was Point North, a Los Angeles alt rock band formed in 2017, celebrated for their energetic performances, with a growing discography that currently boasts three studio albums.  Lead vocalist Jon Lundin is a dynamic front man, rousing the crowd for the upcoming headliner.

Badflower hit the stage to an ecstatic crowd.  Josh Katz (vocals / guitar), Joey Morrow (lead guitar), Alex Espiritu (bass) and Anthony Sonetti (drums) put on a mesmerizing performance that featured fast-paced energy intermingled with soulful reverie, not just between songs but within them as well.  Many bands performing live can take fans from kinetic highs to swooning, whispering lows from one song to the next, but there is something special about a band that can intermingle these paces within a single song, from song to song, throughout the performance.  This is where Badflower shines – an intoxicating, rhythmic vibe that draws the audience in.

Katz, donning a red knit cap, chatted with the crowd between songs (“What’s up?  What’s new?”), at one point apologizing to the VIP meet-n-greet fans he met before the performance – “I think I was sick!”  One would never know he was under the weather from his sultry, angst-ridden yet equally vibrant performance.

The band put on a set that certainly satisfied the crowd:

  1. Number 1
  2. Snuff
  3. 30
  4. Animal
  5. Drop Dead
  6. Heroin
  7. Let the Band Play
  8. What’s the Point
  9. The Jester
  10. Ghost
  11. No Place Like Home
  12. London
  13. Swinging Hammer

The three bands are continuing their tour together through late March.  Stop by any of their websites for tour stops near you.  Go!!  It is so worth it!
