Columbia, MD – Outdoor concert season has officially returned to Merriweather Post Pavilion in Columbia, Maryland, and not even a rain-soaked evening could keep fans away. More than 40,000 concertgoers braved the torrential downpour to witness Muse bring its electrifying The Wow! Signal Tour to the iconic outdoor venue. As the relentless downpour finally gave way to sunshine, the show kicked off promptly at 7 p.m. It was almost as if the weather itself had stepped aside to make room for the music. The rain-soaked crowd responded with renewed energy.

Two opening acts kept the crowd energized and buzzing with anticipation, setting the stage for the evening’s highly anticipated headliner. First up was Australian indie rock band The Temper Trap, whose soaring vocals, shimmering guitar work, and atmospheric sound immediately captivated the audience. The band delivered a spirited set featuring fan favorites such as “Lucky Dimes,” “Sweet Disposition,” “Love Lost,” and “Giving Up Air.” Their heartfelt performance and infectious energy quickly won over the rain-soaked crowd, providing the perfect start to an unforgettable evening of live music.

Up next was Bloc Party. They opened strong with “Coming on Strong,” “Love Bombs,” and “This Modern Love.” Their chemistry as a band was magnetic, feeding off one another’s energy while remaining technically flawless throughout the set. Some newcomers may not have known what Bloc Party would bring to the table, but it didn’t take long for the band to win them over. Before long, heads were nodding, and the crowd was fully engaged. They closed their set with their biggest hit, “Flux,” sending the audience out on a high note and capping off a standout performance.

The moment everyone had been waiting for had finally arrived as English alternative rock powerhouse, Muse, took the stage. The crowd erupted as the opening notes of “Hysteria” rang through the venue, instantly igniting a wave of excitement that swept across the crowd. The visual production matched the music’s intensity, featuring dazzling lighting, towering LED screens, and perfectly timed confetti blasts that elevated every moment. Combined with the band’s commanding stage presence, the spectacle never allowed the energy to dip. They delivered a twenty-three-song set that included some of their biggest hits, including their widely recognized track from the Twilight soundtrack, “Supermassive Black Hole.” The official Muse trio, front man and guitarist, Matt Bellamy, bassist, Chris Wolstenholme, and drummer, Dominic Howard, arrived with their signature chemistry intact, joined onstage by a fourth musician whose keyboards added new layers and atmospheric textures to the band’s expansive sound. The setlist was a perfect blend of old and new, highlighting just how naturally they have evolved over the years.  What stood out most was hearing the audience sing along not only to the songs that defined their youth, but also to the band’s newest material. Too often, crowds fall quiet when newer songs make their way into the setlist, but that wasn’t the case in Maryland. The same passion and enthusiasm carried through every era of Muse’s catalog, underscoring the enduring connection between the band and its fans.
